Great Summer Professional Learning Opportunities
We are so lucky in Montana to have three National Writing Project sites. This summer, each of the three sites will have their summer institutes, and many other great professional development opportunities. Each of these opportunities is a chance for you to enhance your writing instruction, build your leadership capacity, earn renewal units, or even earn graduate credit (in some cases.)
Montana Writing Project
Invitational Leadership Institute
The Invitational Leadership Institute will be held June 12-23 with a follow up meeting on August 14. In between those dates on campus, there will be approximately 3 hours per week of online mentoring. The program will provide 7 graduate credits, and it explores the use of best literacy strategies across content areas and grade levels, multicultural perspectives and effective infusion of Indian Education for All. We are funded by grants from OPI and the National Writing Project, so fees for these 7 graduate credits are very low, at approximately $285. If you are already pursuing a graduate program, these credits are likely to be transferable.

Worlds Apart But Not Strangers: Holocaust Education and Indian Education for All
Worlds Apart But Not Strangers will be held July 16-22. This institute uses interdisciplinary inquiry to explore connections between the Jewish Holocaust and Indian Education for All. Participants will hear from Holocaust survivors and meet with Billings' Beth Aaron community. Three graduate credits can be earned for only $135, thanks to funding from the Memorial Library, the Olga Lengyel Institute and Humanities Montana. Apply now. Space is limited. Invitational Leadership Institute
The Institute will be held this summer, June 12- June 23. The 2017 institute will meet Mondays through Fridays, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm on the University of Montana campus in Missoula. Participants can earn 6 graduate credits for $350. We will engage in literacy topics, including Indian Education for All, writing across the curriculum, K-16 writing assessment, high school dual enrollment, teaching for social justice, and professional support for all teachers, especially those teaching in rural areas. We welcome experienced educators and pre-service graduate students from all subject areas and grade levels (K-16). The broader the range of educational backgrounds, the more rich and diverse our experience.
