New ELA Online Learning Opportunities
I’m happy to share that we have worked diligently over the summer to provide new and exciting online learning opportunities for you on the Teacher Learning Hub:
Taking Reading Instruction to the Next Level: Strategies for Success focuses on strategies for educators in elementary and middle-grade settings, and is about increasing students' reading comprehension and guiding them to understand their own meta-cognitive learning processes so they can transfer these strategies to other content areas.
Supporting Readers with Textbooks is a reading methods course for any teacher who wishes to deepen students' comprehension and engagement with challenging informational text. (opening soon!)
First Year, Now What?! Are you just beginning your teaching career? Are you switching grades or subject areas? This is a 6-week facilitated course that guides you through important record-keeping ideas, classroom organization, and most of all, it provides you an opportunity to meet with the course facilitator and fellow students regularly to have your important questions answered.
Upcoming Professional Development Opportunities
- Montana Data Use Conference in Bozeman, September 19-20. I will be presenting: Using Assessment to Enhance Writing. Hope to see you there!
- Educators Conference, Billings, October 18-19, 2018. There will be many wonderful sessions on ELA, writing, reading, literacy, literature… so many wonderful presenters. This is a great opportunity to network with fellow educators from across the state, too. Don’t miss it!
- Join a professional organization. We are lucky to have a very active chapter of the National Council of Teachers of English, called MATELA - The Montana Association of Teachers of English Language Arts. They publish newsletters, keep us connected to current educational pedagogy, and provide a peer-reviewed journal. Also, if you are interested, they have a joint membership with the Montana Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and the Montana Science Teachers Association.
Thanks for reading!
