Thank you for volunteering to become a member of the OPI Committee of Practitioners (COP). This advisory group is mandated under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) for each state agency that receives Title I, Part A funds. The role of the committee is to advise the state in carrying out the responsibilities listed under Title I, Part A. The duties of the committee are to review, before publication, of any proposed or final State rule or regulation pursuant to this title. While the COP has advisory duties, it does not have final say in any proposed rules or regulations.
The COP meets formally one time per calendar year. This yearly meeting takes place the night before the annual OPI Title I Conference. The date for the conference is March 28-29, 2018. The COP meeting will be held the night of March 27. The OPI will furnish dinner and dessert. All other associated costs of attending are the responsibility of the district. Other meetings are held as needed by conference call. Surveys are also sent out as needed for input.
The first responsibility of the COP for this year will be to review the draft plan of the state’s new education plan as required under the ESSA. This plan will be posted for public comment in the next few weeks. You will then have time to read the document, and then make comments on it.
Thanks again for becoming part of the Committee of Practitioners. If you have further questions, please contact the Title I Unit at 406-444-5660 or SPieske@mt.gov.
