FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Montana’s Draft ESSA State Plan is Available for Public Comment
July 12, 2017
HELENA—Superintendent Arntzen released Montana’s draft state plan for the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) today for public input. The draft plan can be found at on OPI’s website: http://opi.mt.gov/pdf/ESSA/17JulyESSA_Draft.pdf. Additional ESSA documents and the latest updates can be found in the ESSA section of OPI’s website: http://opi.mt.gov/ESSA/Index.html.
“I am pleased to introduce Montana’s draft ESSA state plan today. The Montana plan is the result of strong collaboration between OPI, education stakeholders, policymakers, tribal leaders, and our diverse schools, businesses, and communities across the state. Montana’s plan will put Montana students first by creating a comprehensive, transparent system of individual school accountability, promoting long-term student growth, and moving beyond the strict federal mandates of the previous federal No Child Left Behind Act. Strategic use of these federal funds is critical to supporting Montana students. Local Montana communities know best how to educate our students. I welcome input on the plan from all Montanans,” Arntzen said Wednesday.
Comments, questions, and input which can be directed to ESSAinput@mt.gov, 406-444-3095, or 1227 11th Avenue, Helena, MT 59601. Public input will be accepted through August.
