For our final 2017 edition of the 3 Big Ideas, we thought we would send you off with some fun:
Big Idea #1 - Real World Ideas for Math
Some students will always ask, "how does math apply to real life?" Here are 26 answers to that famous question. Answer #9 is for the family consumer science teachers while answer #22 is for those high school students considering college.
Big Idea #2 - New Summer Geography Institute
The Montana Geographic Alliance (MGA) is hosting a Geo-Inquiry Institute at the University of Montana's Flathead Lake Biological Station in June 2018. The Geo-Inquiry Process is a new interactive geography education program from the National Geographic Society. Pairs of middle school social studies, science, media, and technology teachers from the same school are encouraged to attend the institute. MGA will cover the costs of the institute and travel stipends are available. Visit MGA's website to learn about the institute and to register to attend. Visit the National Geographic Society's website to learn about the Geo-Inquiry Process.
Big Idea #3 - Fire on the Page Conference
Yellowstone Writing Project is hosting a one-day conference for educators, Fire on the Page, at the Museum of the Rockies on Saturday, February 10, 2017. The focus will be on writing in museums and using archives, including on-site resources at the museum, as well as digital sources from renowned Montana writer, Ivan Doig. Teachers can earn renewal units! Visit their website for more information.
The Content Standards and Instruction division wishes you a safe and very Happy Holidays. The 3 Big Ideas will return in January 2018.
