ADULT WORKSHOPS - REGISTER BY MARCH 5 FOR $10 DISCOUNT

Learn to respond safely to driving risks and become a better driver

mtdrive-logo.jpgCome to Lewistown this summer for a fun and active behind-the-wheel workshop that increases driver skill and confidence. Since 1979 our professional driving instructors have trained nearly 14,000 drivers in off-road recovery, skid control, and evasive maneuvers. Montana DRIVE summer workshops include two hours of classroom instruction and six hours driving vehicles on a safe, closed track adjacent to the Lewistown Airport. Each one-day workshop is limited to 12 drivers with four instructors who each take three drivers through different driving maneuvers. All drivers have the thrill of driving the “Skid Monster” outfitted for simulated--and safe--skidding.

For a $10 discount, register by March 5! All workshop participants must pre-register and pre-pay the workshop. The cost for a one-day adult workshop is $330. Register by March 5 for an early registration discount of $10.00. Visit MontanaDRIVE.mt.gov to choose a date from the workshop calendar. Then, send an email to montanadrive@mt.gov with driver name(s), first and second choice dates, and a billing contact for invoicing. State agencies can pay via InterUnit Journal.

Teen driver workshops are scheduled on July 24, 25, and 26 and State Farm teen scholarships are available again this year, reducing the cost from $290 to $90 for teens who apply. Teen workshops are limited to 12 drivers per day with five instructors providing specialized instruction just for young drivers (age 15-25) who have their learner or driver license. Register early to get the day you want. We are grateful to State Farm Insurance for their support, since 2009, of the Montana DRIVE Teen Program, helping teens develop behind-the-wheel skills that make their drives safer for themselves and others.

For drivers over 55, the completion of a Montana DRIVE workshop can lower auto insurance premiums. Check with your insurance agent to learn more.

Recent testimonials from Montana DRIVE workshop drivers:

  • “The course gave me an overall level of confidence I didn't have prior to taking it. I'm less likely to panic and find it easier to think through situations and options.”
  • “The skills I learned at the Montana Drive are used every day in my job as a school bus driver. The skills have saved me many times, when a semi-truck ran me off the road with a load of children, and when my jeep hit a slick spot on the interstate while driving 70 mph.”
  • “I drive on dangerous mountain roads in adverse conditions with wildlife present on a regular basis. The cornering techniques taught in your course have proved most useful in everyday driving. As much as I try to drive during daylight hours there are times that night driving is required in the same conditions and that is when cornering and looking beyond the curves is beneficial to me. I thoroughly enjoyed the training and use the basic principles of your program whenever I am driving. Keep up the good work.”
