The Montana Office of Public Instruction (OPI) is pleased to introduce our newest Instructional Coordinator, Shannon M. Stevens. Shannon began her career with the OPI on November 28, 2016, after serving as the Healthy Montana Teen Parent Program Coordinator for the Department of Health and Human Services Early Childhood Services Bureau.

Shannon currently serves as the Title IIA and VIB Program Specialist, Neglected and Delinquent Youth Coordinator, and Foster Care Point of Contact for the Educational Opportunity and Equity Division in the OPI. For 12 years as a school counselor and educator in direct student services, Shannon had the privilege of working with students and families from pre-k to Grade 12 and at the college level. She has worked extensively to advocate for vulnerable and underserved populations, including teen parents, families living in transition and poverty, and children in foster care, as well as for youth living with mental illness and addiction. In addition, Shannon has served as an independent contractor working as a violence prevention and substance abuse counselor for adjudicated youth and families. She enjoys opportunities to engage the community and discuss a variety of topics to nurture a sense of shared responsibility for youth and families. Ask Shannon about her time as a Big Cat Biologist and Zoologist and how those skills transferred to her role as an educator! She can be reached at sstevens4@mt.gov or on her office phone, 406-444-0794.
