The Netflix show, "13 Reasons Why," has put the issue of teen suicide back in the news, and educators across the country have voiced their concerns about the show. OPI offers teen suicide prevention courses free of charge to school districts. Please visit one of the following resources for the courses:

Big Idea #2 - Youth Mental Health Courses at MBI
On Tuesday, June 20, 2017, Emma Kerr-Carpenter of Youth Dynamics and Holly Mook of OPI will lead the Youth Mental Health First Aid course at the MBI Summer Institute. The 8-hour course is designed give participants key skills to help an adolescent who is experiencing a mental health crisis or is developing a mental health problem.
On Thursday, June 22, 2017, Karl Rosston, Suicide Prevention Coordinator for the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services, will be presenting Suicide Among the Young, which focuses on suicide within our culture with an emphasis on young people. Participants will learn what the warning signs for suicide are and learn what suicide prevention resources are available in Montana.

Big Idea #3 - Use of Social Media as Means of Approval for Girls
Social media can be a great tool to connect with family and friends. Unfortunately, for many girls, social media has become a means to get positive and negative approval from others. Read the article to learn of ways to talk to girls to counteract the negativity they are receiving from social media.

The Great Falls Math Teachers Circle scheduled for May 19th has been moved to the Great Falls Public Schools District Office at 1100 4th Street South, Great Falls. The topic of the meeting is "Pirate Zombies."
