Big Idea #1 - Censorship of Books in Schools
Censorship of books of schools is a challenging issue in and of itself. The recent challenge to To Kill a Mockingbird in Mississippi has raised the issue again in the national press. Big Idea #2 - Veteran's Day
2017 marks the 100th anniversary of the U.S. going World War I. The Montana Historical Society has great resources about Montana's role in the war. Visit their website to view these resources. The society also has events to commemorate the Veteran's Day holiday.
Big Idea #3 - Computing Awards for High School Girls and Teachers
The National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT) are accepting applications for its 2018 Awards for Aspirations in Computing. There is one award for high school girls and another award for teachers. There is also a statewide award. Visit NCWIT's website for application information and award details. The deadline for high school girls to apply is November 6, while the deadline for teachers to apply is November 13.
BONUS Idea - Celebrating Innovative Learning Conference (November 30 - December 1)
Previously known as the Alternative Education Conference, the Innovative Learning Conference will embrace all forms of innovative learning including traditionally alternative, public charter, personalized learning, and other innovative approaches. Guest speakers will include OPI personnel, experts from the field who are implementing innovative strategies, and representatives from other agencies with whom we all partner for the benefit of students. There will be large group sessions, round-table discussions, and 15 different sectionals from which you can chose to learn more about how to implement innovative strategies in any school. There is no cost to attend. Early registration will close on November 22.
Accommodations are not included, however there is a block of rooms at the Radisson Colonial Hotel. Please make your own reservations, if needed. You may also call 406-443-2100. Mention the “OPI Celebrating Innovative Learning” room block. Dinner is provided on Thursday night as well as breakfast on Friday morning.
