Big Idea #1 - 2018 AP Summer Institute

Registration is still open for the 2018 AP Summer Institute, June 25-28, 2018, at Sentinel High School in Missoula. Chemistry, Calculus, English Literature and Composition, and Spanish Language and Culture are four of the five subject areas covered. Note: The fifth subject area, United States Government and Politics has a revised syllabus this year. Visit the Western Montana Professional Learning Collaborative’s website for registration details and other information.

Big Idea #2 - Native News 2018

The University of Montana’s School of Journalism publishes Native News, an annual look into issues facing Montana’s tribes. This year’s edition looks into the topic of self-governance and how the people are working to resolve issues surrounding self-governance. One article visits Rocky Boy High School’s Helping Hands Program, while another article visits the Dakota language program at Fort Peck Community College. Visit the School of Journalism’s website to read these articles and visit past issues of Native News.

Big Idea #3 -  That dreaded summer slide

Every teacher knows that reading and math skills slide during the summer months, making it difficult to get kids back on track in the fall. There are free summer reading and math challenges that kids can take to prevent the dreaded summer slide. Visit OPI’s website for details on the challenges and challenge certificates.
