The Content Standards and Instruction Division welcome all of you back to school. Your trusty 3 Big Ideas editor has found some fun things to start off the school year.
Big Idea #1 - Want to build your own Mars Rover?
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has a special computer science website for students and educators. One of the items on the website is the instructions on how to build your own Mars Rover. There is even an Optimus Prime Spinoff challenge for students in 7th and 8th grades.
Big Idea #2 - Meet Dr. Universe
Ask Dr. Universe is a science-education project from Washington State University, where children can ask any science question for Dr. Universe to answer. Recent questions include where do bees sleep and why do dogs have wet noses. Visit the Ask Dr. Universe website to see other questions Dr. Universe answered, as well as other activities and videos.
Big Idea #3 - Doing a technology quality check
The beginning of the school year is a good time to give the technology a quality check and creating a plan to periodically check if the technology is meeting your needs throughout the year. Read the article about giving technology a quality check, and what one school administrator found in giving technology a thorough quality check.
