Big Idea #1 - 2018 Montana Science Olympiad
The 2018 Montana Science Olympiad will be held Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at Montana State University in Bozeman. The Science Olympiad is open to all students in grades 6 to 12. The deadline to register your team is Friday, October 12, 2018. Visit the Montana Science Olympiad website for registration information and other details. There is something new this year: school registration fees can be paid via credit card. Rules manuals are available to download from the National Science Olympiad website.
Big Idea #2 - New Science Course on the Teacher Learning Hub
Crosscutting Concepts: Making Learning Real Through the Big Picture is the new facilitated science course on the Teacher Learning Hub. Facilitated by Rayelynn Brandl, Project Director for the Clark Fork Watershed Education Project, the course focuses on the third piece of the of the 3 Dimensions of Science Learning: the Crosscutting Concepts (CCCs). The course starts October 1, 2018, and participants will earn 20 OPI renewal units upon completion of the course. Visit the Teacher Learning Hub to enroll in the course.
Big Idea #3 - Career Awareness from the Montana Career Lab
The Montana Department of Labor & Industry's Montana Career Lab has developed new career awareness curriculum for the youngest students. The I Can Be series is for the pre-school through kindergarten students, while the Careers Build a Community curriculum is for 1st to 3rd grades. Visit the Student Section on the Montana Career Lab website to see the new curriculum, along with the curriculum for middle and high school students.
